Private Cloud without Internet Connectivity

Back in 2007, the title of this article probably didn’t make any sense. The cloud was a diagram to represent the Internet. Cloud Services == Services from the Internet.

Now, when someone told you they need a private cloud solution without internet connectivity, you probably can guess what they want to do. It feels like they want to have a smaller scale Amazon S3/EC2-like service, smaller scale dropbox-like service or smaller box-like service that is completely contained in a building or a region that is isolated from the Internet. It just runs in its own private world.

The Cloud word is no longer synonym to the Internet. It is synonym to the public cloud applications we are seeing, such as the ability to access files over the web browser; such as the ability to start a virtual machine from a web browser; such as the ability to view documents over iPhone and Android devices and so on. Now private cloud means you want to do all that in a  private environment.

We are seeing requests like this for Gladinet. People are asking, can your solution runs completely offline, isolated from the Internet.

Yes, the Gladinet Cloud Enterprise can.

Storage Vendor Agnostic

Gladinet Cloud Enterprise is an access layer on top of the storage services, adding backup, access, sync and share, identity control and collaboration features to storage services.

In the private cloud applications, there are many different kinds of storage services that can be completely contained in a building, such as traditional File Server Storage, SAN and NAS storage, or the newer OpenStack Swift storage, or EMC Atmos storage. It doesn’t matter which one it is, Gladinet Cloud Enterprise can plug it in and add cloud-like access methods to it.

Self-Install and Self-Contained Package

Gladinet Cloud Enterprise has all the components packaged inside the installer. Once it is installed, it can run on its own.  Unlike some other cloud storage solutions that may require you to login and start using the solution from their web site.
